Contrary to reports earlier this week, David Moyes’ situation at West Ham United is seemingly unaffected by the weekend’s thrashing by Arsenal.
Arsenal humiliated West Ham United in a dominant performance on Sunday, winning 6-0 at the London Stadium in front of a home crowd that largely evaporated after their former captain Declan Rice scored a screamer in the 65th minute.
Rice was ultimately substituted to a round of applause from the remaining fans, but the West Ham reception to the final result was far less pleasant.
In the wake of the defeat, the Daily Mail and the Mirror reported in their print editions on February 13th, 2024 that new contract talks for David Moyes had been put on hold.
According to the claims, West Ham sources said in late December to early January that the club were ready to hand Moyes a new contract, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
That reportedly changed in the wake of the defeat to Arsenal, with the club delaying to see how Moyes’ team responds.
But Fabrizio Romano claims the Arsenal result hasn’t affected Moyes’ situation at all.
Romano writes that the situation remains open, and though a new deal has been discussed, the situation is fluid and no final decision has been made.
You’re always going to get some speculation about a manager’s position following a 6-0 defeat, particularly if it comes on the back of some other poor recent results.
Yet it seems it’s too early to draw any conclusions on Moyes’ future, and the Arsenal defeat is just one small factor in whatever the eventual decision might be.
