Vincent Kompany will be banned from the touchline for Burnley’s match against Arsenal this weekend, after picking up his third yellow card of the campaign.

Burnley’s Vincent Kompany picked up a yellow card as his side visited Anfield last weekend, and the manager will now serve a one-match suspension against Arsenal on Saturday.

Kompany had already received two yellow cards earlier in the campaign, so his third in the Liverpool match put him over the limit and earned him a ban.

Jurgen Klopp had also picked up a yellow earlier in the match, and Kompany believes the referee was trying to even things up.

“I’d say it’s a little bit to do with the game,” Kompany said.

“I think I got booked because I should have paid attention to the fact that Jurgen Klopp got booked because then all I think the referee did was just went looking for me.

“I opened my arms out, which I have done exactly that in many games.

“Then all of a sudden the card comes out. Out of nothing. Now I am suspended for the next game.

“I should have known it was just a way to balance it out and it doesn’t make sense, but hey, we have to keep going.”

If the referee really was trying to even things out, you could argue he’s ended up doing the opposite.

Not only was Klopp punished with a yellow card, but the Kompany yellow means one of Liverpool’s title rivals will face Burnley without their manager.

Mikel Arteta is no stranger to touchline bans, having received one of his own earlier this season, so he’ll be sympathetic to the plight of his opposite number this weekend.
