Talks with Galatasaray, who emerged as frontrunners for Cedric’s signature, reportedly went nowhere, despite the Turkish window not closing until 9th February. Despite Cedric’s expiring contract potentially making him a bargain buy, no deal could be reached according to Chris Wheatley (linked above).

Galatasaray’s pursuit of Cedric was seemingly triggered by their own transfer dealings, with the signing of Sacha Boey by Bayern Munich leaving a void at right-back. However, their efforts to bring in the Portuguese international proved unsuccessful and they now look set to sign former Tottenham man, Serge Aurier, from Nottingham Forest.

While Cedric appears settled on seeing out his contract at Arsenal, the summer transfer window could offer a range of choice for the defender. Besiktas were previously reported to be interested in joining the bidding war, and other clubs like Villarreal and Trabzonspor were also linked.

With his contract expiring, Cedric will be free to negotiate with any club and command a hefty signing bonus alongside his new wages.
