Mika Biereth says it was an easy decision to leave Motherwell for Sturm Graz, and he’s dreaming of playing for Arsenal in the future.

Arsenal loanee Mika Biereth swapped Scottish Premiership side Motherwell for Austrian first-division side Sturm Graz in the January transfer window, despite playing well in the first half of the season.

Biereth had scored six goals and assisted five in his 11 starts for Motherwell, and it might have seemed easiest to stick it out with the club until the end of the season.

But Biereth claims it was an easy call to move to Sturm Graz when they showed an interest.

“From a selfish point of view, that was an easy decision,” Biereth said.

“Sturm Graz are at the top of the league, so they are in a better situation, more matches are won and more chances are created, and I would like to see if I can contribute to that.”

“They weren’t particularly surprised at Motherwell when I announced that I wanted to leave them, and they often asked me in the transfer window if I was going anywhere,” Biereth admitted.

“They were all happy that I could take the next step in my career, and I really had a good time at the club.

“In Motherwell, we played very defensively without many chances, and in Sturm Graz they go forward a lot and a lot of chances are created. It can only be good for me.”

As for what’s next, Biereth admitted he’s hoping to play for Arsenal in the future, and he wants to get a chance with the Gunners when he returns to the club in the summer.

“It’s not just my dream, it’s probably the dream of many to play for Arsenal,” Biereth continued.

“All I can do is get better and better when I’m away on loan. Hopefully I can get the opportunity when I come back to the club.

“Arsenal keep an eye on all my matches, and that’s good, so hopefully I can get even better when I go back.”

Biereth has already scored on his friendly debut for his new loan side, and he’ll want to keep that going when the competitive action resumes this week.
