As first spotted by Arsenal youth reporter Jeorge Bird, a number of academy players were involved in Mikel Arteta’s final senior training session ahead of Saturday’s game against Newcastle United.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Ayden Heaven, Osman Kamara, Jack Henry-Francis, and Jimi Gower were all involved in the session.

Most of the youngsters were pictured wearing bibs, so it’s possible they were playing a practice match against the first-team stars.

Midfielder Nwaneri and defender Heaven were both involved in Arteta’s squad away in Porto in midweek, so it’s no real surprise to see them continuing to be involved with the first team in training.

It’s good to see fellow midfielder Lewis-Skelly involved as well, with the 17-year-old not having featured on the pitch since January 20th and rumours of an injury.

As for the rest, Cozier-Duberry is a talented winger in the mould of Bukayo Saka, favouring his left foot and using trickery and agility to beat defenders.

Kamara is also a young forward, largely operating on the left wing, and he’s mostly featured for the u18s in his youth career so far.

Lastly, Henry-Francis and Gower are both u21 midfielders, and Arsenal fans may remember Henry-Francis from his pre-season appearance against Hibs in 2021.

The Republic of Ireland u21 international has had some injury problems since then, but he’s back fit and playing now.

Arsenal’s injured first-team players mostly seem to be doing well, so there shouldn’t be too much need for academy players to fill in against Newcastle on Saturday.

But it’s always good for the youngsters to test themselves against the senior squad, and they’ll be ready for further senior call-ups if needed.
