Arsenal have told youth goalkeeper Noah Cooper he’ll be released at the end of the season, according to a report.
Arsenal Youth report that Arsenal have informed Noah Cooper that he’ll be released at the end of the season, as they aren’t offering him a professional contract.
18-year-old goalkeeper Cooper is currently on scholarship terms with Arsenal, but those will expire in the summer.
With no professional deal on the table, the shot-stopper will be free to leave.
Cooper has made 10 appearances for the Arsenal u18s this season, after impressing in the FA Youth Cup run to the final last campaign. But he’s increasingly been playing a backup role for the side since then.
After starting the first three games of the league campaign, Cooper has only started four of the next 11, and his only appearance in the last three games came as a result of starting goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo being sent off.
Before that, Cooper’s last appearance was in a 7-1 defeat to Liverpool, a result which seemingly lost him his place in the side.
Okonkwo’s sending-off may offer Cooper an opportunity to at least start the next game for Arsenal, as Okonkwo will be serving a one-match suspension against Fulham on March 9th.
But unless something miraculous happens in that game and any remaining appearances Cooper makes between now and May, it looks like his long-term future lies away from London Colney.
