Arsenal have confirmed the exit of young winger Marquinhos on loan to Brazilian side Fluminense. The deal, extending until January 2025, also includes an option for the reigning Copa Libertadores champions to make the move permanent.

Reports suggest certain performance milestones or appearances could trigger this option.

This marks Marquinhos‘ second loan spell this season after mixed results during his time at Ligue 1’s FC Nantes. While the 20-year-old impressed Arsenal fans with a debut goal in the Europa League against FC Zurich, regular starting opportunities proved elusive in France. This led to an early termination of that loan.

Notably, Marquinhos‘ recent stint with the Brazilian u23 national team in the Pre-Olympic Tournament delayed the Fluminense deal’s completion. While missing out on Olympic qualification, Marquinhos now gains the chance for consistent playing time with a top-flight Brazilian club.

Arsenal will hope this move accelerates Marquinhos‘ development. If he thrives in a familiar environment, either an Arsenal return or a permanent move that benefits the Gunners financially through the buy-option becomes possible.

“I am really happy,” Marquinhos told Fluminense’s website.

“It’s a great opportunity in my career to be able to represent Fluminense’s team. I’m very happy and I hope we write a beautiful story, with titles and many victories. Fluminense is a club that aims for great things and that’s what made me come here.

“The objective for the season is to win as many titles as possible. If we manage to win the Libertadores for the second time, it would be wonderful.”
