Arsenal’s recent winning streak, capped by their Burnley triumph, is cause for celebration.

Yet, Kai Havertz‘s call for sustained focus reveals the mindset the club needs if they want to turn a hot start into genuine title contention and a deep Champions League run.

Arsenal focused on sustaining form, cautions Havertz

Despite a scorching start to 2024 and five consecutive Premier League wins, Kai Havertz offered a word of caution after Arsenal‘s 5-0 rout of Burnley. While celebrating the side’s goal-scoring form, his comments underscore the team’s determination to not let past pitfalls define their current campaign.

Trust fuels success… So far

“I think we trust ourselves…we know the quality we all have and we trust each other…” he said. Havertz emphasised confidence as key to Arsenal‘s recent rise. Yet, there’s an implicit warning: past seasons saw mid-campaign slumps, suggesting this year’s success doesn’t guarantee avoiding similar woes.

“But still, it’s not the end now, we need to keep being focussed,” he added.

The immediate switch from domestic success to a high-stakes Champions League challenge against Porto requires Arsenal to avoid getting swept up in the current wave of positive results. Each game requires the same intensity.

Lessons from the past, present challenges

Arsenal fans know the pain of inconsistent form and mid-season stumbles. While this squad possesses a different mentality, history offers a sobering reminder that sustained success is as challenging as it is desirable. Upcoming fixtures pose significant tests, both in the Premier League and in the return to European competition.

Havertz: Keep working, keep the joy

Even amidst the focus on sustained form, Havertz also reminds his teammates about a core factor in their success “We just work hard and try to enjoy ourselves on the pitch and that’s what we did today as well.”
