Arsenal academy graduate Chuba Akpom could be making a surprise return to England, with Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest reportedly submitting a late bid for the striker.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Nottingham Forest have tabled a significant offer for Akpom, exceeding the €14.3 million Ajax paid for him last summer.
The deal includes a loan with a potential mandatory purchase option, offering a financial boon for the Amsterdammers, who are said to be both reluctant to sell anyone and apparently tempted by the money on offer.
It is believed Forest’s offer was €15m. Ajax then asked for €17m and included an obligation to buy that would apply even if Forest were relegated.
Starting his career in the Gunners’ youth ranks, Akpom showcased early promise, making his senior debut in 2013. However, his path to the first team remained elusive, leading to numerous loan spells across England and Greece. His most successful stint came at PAOK, where he became a fan favourite and helped them win the double in 2018-19.
With Nottingham Forest keen and Ajax weighing their options, the coming hours will be crucial in determining Akpom’s future.
For Arsenal fans, the potential sale offers a chance to see a former prospect excel on the Premier League stage.
