Nuno Tavares is keen to rejoin Marseille, with the Ligue 1 club now prioritising his signing over other options, according to reports.

RMC Sport (via GFFN) report that Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares is keen to return to Olympique de Marseille, following his loan spell with the club last season.

RMC claim Tavares is a target for Marseille, with the pursuit of a number of their other targets failing to bear fruit.

But RMC note that Tavares is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo is not keen to let him leave.

Arsenal don’t have a recall clause in the deal, so the three clubs would need to come to an agreement.

L’Equipe write that with Marseille’s move for FC Nantes’ Quentin Merlin stalling, a deal for Tavares has now become the club’s priority transfer.

Marseille bosses reportedly believe the deal could be easier to complete than a move for Merlin, despite the complications of Tavares’ loan to Forest.

Just a few weeks ago, that wouldn’t have been hard to believe. Tavares didn’t even make it into the Forest squad for a month and a half, despite being fit to play.

But Santo’s appointment has changed that, and the Arsenal loanee played 90 minutes of a Premier League fixture against Brentford over the weekend.

Tavares and Forest have an FA Cup game coming up against Bristol City on Friday, but that will be his final match of the month.

The only other fixture is the visit of Tavares’ parent club Arsenal next Tuesday, and the left-back will be ineligible for that match.

With Fabrizio Romano reporting that Arsenal are very much open to Tavares’ permanent transfer to Marseille, we’ll see if they can convince Forest to budge during next week’s meeting.
