Sheffield Wednesday are targeting Arsenal’s Mika Biereth for a loan spell in the second half of the season, but a move would be complicated.
Sheffield outlet The Star report that Sheffield Wednesday are interested in bringing in Arsenal striker Mika Biereth for the second half of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday are certainly in the market for a forward, though a move for Biereth would require Arsenal to terminate the forward’s current loan to Motherwell.
Even if Arsenal make that call, Wednesday are reportedly not the only Championship club with an interest in Biereth. They’d face competition for his signature.
Biereth is performing well in Scotland, with 11 goal contributions in 14 Scottish Premiership appearances. The Arsenal 20-year-old is averaging a goal or assist every 93 minutes in the SPFL.
A switch to the Championship for the second half of the season would likely be viewed as an upgrade in terms of the challenge facing Biereth, and the experience he could gain as a result.
But the move carries the risk of disrupting what has been a very productive season on loan, with Biereth earning consistent minutes so far.
Motherwell certainly won’t be happy to let Biereth go, which creates another hurdle to overcome. He’s been one of their players of the season so far.
We have two weeks until the conclusion of the January transfer window, and for now, Biereth will be preparing for Motherwell’s Scottish Cup game against Alloa Athletic on Saturday, January 20th at 15:00 GMT.
