Mohamed Salah has suffered an injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, but it looks like he’ll return to fitness in time to face Arsenal if Egypt are eliminated.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was forced off at half time of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Ghana on Thursday, sparking fears of an injury forcing him out of the tournament.

After running further tests on the problem, Egypt have now officially confirmed that Salah has suffered a strain in his back muscle, and he’ll miss their next two games at the tournament.

That means Salah is out of Egypt’s game against Cape Verde on Monday, and he’ll also miss their last-16 clash if they make it out of the group.

The suggestion is that Salah would then be fit to return to action in time for the AFCON quarter-finals, which could be bad news for Arsenal.

If Egypt are eliminated, which is significantly more likely without their star forward, then Arsenal face Liverpool on the same weekend as the AFCON quarter-finals.

Salah will be fit in time for the Arsenal match, and it’s just a question of whether or not he’ll still be required by Egypt.

Arsenal’s fans will be hoping Mohamed Elneny can step up and help the team through to the next round in Salah’s absence, with the side only picking up two points from their opening two games.

Egypt need to beat group winners Cape Verde on Monday to guarantee progression to the last 16, though a draw may be enough depending on other results.
