Runar Alex Runarsson has been absent from Cardiff City’s recent matches with a head injury, not because he’s set to be recalled by Arsenal.

Arsenal loan goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has had a mixed time with Cardiff City, with a couple of spells in the starting lineup but a lot longer on the bench for the side so far.

Most recently, Runarsson started five consecutive Championship fixtures between November 25th and December 13th, before dropping out of the team for the next three games.

Just as the January transfer window was about to open, Runarsson then dropped out of the Cardiff City squad completely, leading to some speculation that Arsenal could be set to recall him.

This turned out not to be the case, with Cardiff boss Erol Bulut explaining after the first absence that Runarsson was actually injured.

“Yesterday, in training, he had a ball in the face,” Bulut said in late December.

“Before he had the same problem with the head, so the doctor said he should stay (away) for 48 hours.

“Then we will know if he can come back or not or if he has to stay longer.”

That turned out to be the case, with Runarsson forced to miss two further fixtures at the start of the New Year.

Yet in response to the rumours of a recall, Bulut was emphatic, saying: “No, no. He got a ball in training in his face. So it was something with the head.”
