FC Nantes are considering ending the loan of Arsenal’s winger, Marquinhos, amidst growing speculation that Arsenal may recall him.

This development arises from Marquinhos’ limited opportunities at Nantes and his selection for the CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament.

FC Nantes are reportedly contemplating terminating the loan of Arsenal winger Marquinhos amid rumours Arsenal plan to recall the player.

This follows Marquinhos’ limited game time with the French club and his commitment to participating in the upcoming CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament.

The 20-year-old Brazilian’s desire to play in the pre-Olympic tournament at the end of January, which falls outside the FIFA calendar, has become a point of contention.

Nantes, who are opposed to his participation, have reportedly initiated talks with Arsenal to find a solution.

This disagreement, coupled with Marquinhos’ potential absence for an extended period due to the tournament, has fuelled speculation about an early return to Arsenal.

Marquinhos, who moved to Nantes on loan last summer, has struggled to secure a regular place in the team, with only seven appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

The winger, who has shown promise but limited impact at Nantes, has been limited to brief substitute appearances since his return from the Pan American Games in November, where he won a gold medal with Brazil.

The tournament, starting on January 20th, could again see Marquinhos away from club duties until mid-February, should Brazil progress to the later stages.

Brazil’s impressive Olympic track record, including recent gold medals in 2016 and 2020, the latter of which saw Arsenal‘s Gabriel Martinelli play a key role, sets high expectations for the team.

Marquinhos is expected to be a crucial part of Brazil’s quest to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, and his performance in the tournament will be under close scrutiny.
