Ivan Toney, the prolific Brentford striker, has sparked hope among Arsenal fans with his recent comments, as he eyes a move to a top club.

Toney, who has just completed an eight-month suspension for breaching FA gambling rules, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, a prospect that has gained momentum following his recent statements.

Toney, 27, has made his ambitions clear, saying, “I don’t know – you can never predict when is the right time. It’s obvious I would like to play for a top club…fighting for titles. Whether it’s this January for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows? My main focus is doing what I do on the pitch.”

Despite his time away from the pitch, Toney’s record speaks for itself.

He hit 20 goals in 33 Premier League games last season, a feat that has not gone unnoticed by top clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea. His return to action could be against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, marking a significant moment in his career.

Reflecting on his suspension, Toney expressed his frustrations and his resolve to move forward. He was fined £50,000 and diagnosed as a gambling addict, but he confidently claims to have beaten the habit.

Toney reflected, “Sometimes you just don’t realise what you’re doing in the moment. It’s sorted out now,” adding, “I’ve spoken to people about it and it’s all sorted now, so I’ll focus on doing the right thing. I’ll do none of that rubbish now, it’s all good.”

Brentford, for their part, have shown support for their striker throughout his suspension.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank said, “It’s a team he’s really enjoyed being part of, with some good mates, enjoying their football together, enjoying playing for Brentford and for the fans. We’ve done everything we can to help him through this. We’d like to keep him, but we know how football is.”

As the January transfer window continues, Arsenal‘s interest in Toney represents a significant opportunity.

His proven goal-scoring ability and renewed focus could be pivotal for Arsenal in their quest for titles.

Toney’s statement, “Whether it’s this January for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows?” has undoubtedly given Arsenal supporters hope for a high-profile addition to their squad.

Only question that remains now is – can Arsenal afford him in this window due to FFP?
