Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he picked up his last knee injury with a kick in an Arsenal training session back in August.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus put in a Man of the Match performance against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, scoring one and assisting one in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory.
After the game, Jesus was asked about the support of the Arsenal fans, who had been singing his name throughout the match.
In response, Jesus insisted he’s always given everything for the supporters since his arrival, but his injury problems have sometimes made things difficult in north London so far.
“Unfortunately, I have been sometimes injured,” Jesus said. “That’s [something] I don’t want.
“And then my knee again, I got kicked in training and then some problems again.
“I’m working hard, you know, I’m doing everything to be on the pitch, because I think I can help more on the pitch than outside [of it].”
Jesus suffered his second Arsenal knee injury at the end of July, undergoing a procedure to address it on August 2nd.
Until now, it had been assumed that the injury was sustained at some point during Arsenal’s friendly win over Barcelona, in which Jesus played 79 minutes.
The striker had performed very well on the day, but he’d been the victim of one particularly vicious challenge from Ronald Araujo, and that was generally believed to be the cause of his injury.
However, the player has now himself confirmed that the injury occurred afterwards, during a training session before their game against AS Monaco.
Araujo is unlikely to receive many apologies from Arsenal fans, as his aggressive challenge in a meaningless friendly could certainly have caused Jesus problems on another day.
But it’s another reminder that we don’t always have all the information when players get injured.
Fortunately, Jesus only ended up missing a few weeks of action, and he’s on a run of 10 consecutive appearances in the Premier League right now.
