New Arsenal Women signing Emily Fox says the team’s 4-1 win over Chelsea helped to convince her to sign for the club.
Emily Fox made her debut for the Arsenal Women on Sunday, starting in their Women’s FA Cup match against Watford Women as they won comfortably and progressed to the next round of the competition.
But that wasn’t the first Arsenal match Fox had attended, having also watched the team play against Chelsea in December.
Speaking after completing her transfer, Fox admitted the game played a part in her eventual decision to join Arsenal.
“That game and being there was really the icing on the cake,” Fox told The Telegraph. “After that game I was just all jittery and excited.
“The experience of it, the unbelievable atmosphere, the fans and how loud they were, and the football that was played, and beating Chelsea.
“There was research done before then but then that was the icing on top, for me to say ‘I want to play here’.”
Fox will be pleased to have ended up on the winning side in her first game with Arsenal this weekend, though it was at Meadow Park, not the Emirates Stadium.
As it stands, it appears Fox’s first opportunity to play in front of the Emirates crowd will come in February, when Arsenal take on Manchester United on Saturday 17th at 12:30 GMT.
That could change, depending on the outcome of the FA Cup round-of-16 draw, with the next round due to take place on the weekend of February 11th.
