The Romanian winter break has offered some encouragement for Catalin Cirjan that his recent return to the Rapid starting lineup is set to continue in 2024.

Arsenal loanee Catalin Cirjan started fast with Romanian club Rapid back in July, making four starts in their first five games and providing an early assist.

But things were much more difficult for the 21-year-old after that, as he dropped out of the side and didn’t make a further start for more than four months.

That run finally ended against Petrolul on December 15th, and the good news is that it seems Cirjan might have finally won his place back on a long-term basis.

Following his start against Petrolul, Cirjan played 90 minutes against FCV Farul a few days later, only coming off in injury time.

Rapid then went on their winter break, but there have been signs of encouragement during fixture interruption.

Rapid have played three friendly games over the last week, getting the squad up to speed ahead of the return to competitive action on January 19th. Cirjan has started two of their three matches.

It certainly looks as though the Arsenal man has broken back into the Rapid team, which could have significant implications for his future as a player.

Rapid owner Dan Sucu previously confirmed that the club have a purchase option in Cirjan’s loan deal. It would be a significant fee for the Romanian side, but an amount they could afford to pay.

If Cirjan earns a spot in the starting lineup and remains in the team for the rest of the season, that would surely increase the chances that Rapid opt to buy him permanently.
