Chelsea aren’t planning to make moves for Arsenal-linked strikers Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney this month, according to a report.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with plenty of strikers in recent months, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney foremost amongst them.
Whilst it grew increasingly clear that Arsenal couldn’t afford to make a major move for a striker in the January transfer window, Chelsea were a bit of an unknown quantity, given their gigantic outlay on players in the last few transfer windows.
But it seems the Blues are now also suffering from financial restrictions on their January business.
The Telegraph report that there’s no appetite at Chelsea to spend £120m on Osimhen this month, suggesting profit and sustainability rules might be behind that decision.
There is also a belief that Toney will remain at Brentford until the end of the season, so it doesn’t look like Chelsea are planning a move there either.
That’s seemingly good news for Arsenal, as it means two of their potential summer targets will remain on the market later this year.
Ideally, Chelsea would look elsewhere for a centre-forward signing, and then they won’t be in the market for one this summer.
But more realistically, the Blues will probably be competing with Arsenal in their recruitment at the end of the campaign.
