Borussia Dortmund have scouted Arsenal’s Chido Obi-Martin on multiple occasions, but the striker isn’t set for an imminent departure.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund know Chido Obi-Martin well, and they’ve scouted him multiple times, but that’s all there is to the rumours at this stage.

Romano claims Obi-Martin is an important piece of Arsenal’s future, and there’s nothing imminent happening with the striker’s transfer situation.

Obi-Martin’s contract situation is a little complicated, given his age.

The striker has already agreed a scholarship deal with Arsenal ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but that deal won’t become active until the start of next season.

Then, when he turns 17 in November, Obi-Martin will be eligible for a professional contract with Arsenal.

Scholarship deals generally last for two years, so if Obi-Martin’s deal only starts this summer, then he should be under contract until 2026.

His first professional deal would be capped at two full seasons, plus the remainder of the ongoing campaign, so if he signed one in November, it would only last until 2027.

Then, once Obi-Martin turned 18, he could then sign a longer-term contract.

In short, Obi-Martin is reportedly already committed to Arsenal until 2026, and the Gunners can extend that for a further year in November.

But they’ll have to reach an agreement with the striker to do so, and that might offer Borussia Dortmund a way in.

Obi-Martin made headlines by scoring 10 goals for the Arsenal u16s against Liverpool earlier in the season, but his achievements in the higher age groups have been more modest.

The 16-year-old has three goals and two assists in 683 minutes for the Arsenal u18s, u19s, and u21s, which works out as a goal contribution every 137 minutes on average.

Certainly not a bad return for such a young player, who has also scored seven goals in nine games for the Denmark u17s.
