Arsenal loan striker Mika Biereth has probably been the star of the club’s current batch of loanees so far this season, directly contributing to 11 goals in his 14 appearances (11 starts) in the Scottish Premiership.

20-year-old Biereth is averaging a goal or assist every 95 minutes for struggling Motherwell, while Arsenal battle with a goal drought from their selection of centre-forwards.

As a result, there was plenty of speculation around a potential recall for Biereth when he was spotted in training with the Arsenal first team earlier this month.

Graeme McGarry of the Herald & Times has now confirmed that Biereth hasn’t been recalled by Arsenal, and he’s returning to training with Motherwell on Thursday.

The reason for Biereth’s inclusion in the Arsenal first-team training session was simply that Motherwell are on their winter break at the moment.

The team’s next fixture is in the Scottish Cup on January 20th, so Biereth’s loan club had no real need for him until then.

It was the perfect time for Biereth to log some minutes with Arsenal and show Mikel Arteta what he can do.

Biereth spent a couple of months out injured earlier in the season, so the visit to Arsenal would also have given club medics a chance to see how he’s getting on following his recovery.

When Motherwell do return to action, the Scottish club will be very keen to have one of their players of the season back with them again.
