Karim Benzema may yet decide to leave Al-Ittihad this month, but there’s still nothing in the links to Arsenal, according to a report.
It’s not yet entirely clear whether or not Karim Benzema is set to leave Saudi Arabia in the January transfer window, with L’Equipe recently claiming that the player will “100%” stay with his current club, but not all sources agreeing.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the situation between Benzema and Al-Ittihad is tense, and he adds that it’s one to watch in the next few days. But when it comes to Arsenal, there’s little to the rumours.
Romano writes that there’s nothing ongoing between Benzema and Arsenal, and the Gunners aren’t working on a deal. As it stands, there’s nothing to report on a potential move.
According to L’Equipe, Benzema is reportedly focused on turning his fortunes around with the Saudi Arabian club, despite some ‘underwhelming’ displays so far.
The 36-year-old has scored 12 goals in 20 games, which is certainly not a bad return, but not an upgrade on the 31 goals in 43 games he managed in La Liga and the Champions League last season.
Given the comparative standard of league football in Saudi Arabia, 12 in 20 is a little underwhelming.
In addition to Romano’s denial, Alex Crook of talkSPORT also tweeted out #AFC Benzema” along with a big red X on Friday morning.
Benzema may yet be on the move this month, and he’s increasingly being linked with a return to Lyon, but it doesn’t look like Arsenal are seriously in the race.
