Arsenal Women’s Brazilian winger, Gio Queiroz, has moved on loan to Liga F side Madrid CFF for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Gio, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 from Barcelona, has had a challenging time establishing herself at the club, leading to this latest move.

The 21-year-old forward’s journey at Arsenal began in September 2022, but she was quickly loaned out to Everton for the 2022/23 season. During her time on Merseyside, Gio made 11 appearances and scored one goal. However, her spell was marred by a hip injury, which hampered her ability to make a lasting impact.

Gio’s return to Arsenal in January 2023 saw her make her debut against Leeds United on 29th January 2023. She has since made 11 appearances in the red and white of Arsenal. Despite her efforts, Gio was not registered for the 25-strong squad this season, following summer loan moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, which fell through.

The decision for Gio to join Madrid CFF is a return to familiar territory for the young forward. This move to Spain signifies her second spell with Madrid CFF, where she previously made her senior debut at the tender age of 15 in 2018.

Madrid CFF, the current fourth-place team in the F League, eagerly welcomes back Gio, whom they describe as a very mobile centre forward, known for her ‘brave character’, ‘excellent individual technique’, ‘top speed’, and ‘scoring instinct’. The 2021 Copa América champion with Brazil brings both ambition and hunger to Madrid CFF, adding a new dimension to their offensive options under the guidance of coach Víctor Martín Alba.
