Arsenal Women put in a dominant performance in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, cruising to a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Watford at home to advance to the fifth round in style.

After the game, Jonas Eidevall, the Arsenal manager, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “It’s a strong performance. We were good on the ball; we played some great attacking football. We controlled most of the game,” he said.

He also acknowledged the team’s potential for even more goals, adding, “The only thing we could have done better was to score more goals sooner in the game so it could have felt a little bit easier, but all-in-all, it was strong.”

The match began with an early lead for Arsenal, as Alessia Russo capitalised on a spill from Watford goalkeeper Jacqueline Goldsmid just six minutes into the game. This quick start was followed by a clever move from Victoria Pelova, setting up Lia Walti for a beautiful curling shot, doubling the lead shortly after.

Arsenal maintained control throughout, with notable performances from several players. Emily Fox, making her debut, received praise from Eidevall for her integration into the team. “Really strong performance, nice to see her settling in so quickly,” he said.

Victoria Pelova also received specific mention for her influential role, particularly in setting up the second and third goals. Eidevall lauded her creativity, stating, “She’s a very creative player… we managed to do that with good positioning and passing play as , so that’s nice to see.”

Despite a dominant first half, Arsenal entered the break with only a two-goal lead. They continued their relentless pursuit in the second half, leading to goals from Stina Blackstenius, Amanda Ilestedt, and Frida Maanum. Blackstenius, in particular, made an instant impact after coming on as a substitute, scoring and assisting in quick succession.

Watford‘s lone goal, scored by Gunners loanee Michelle Agyemang, came as a mere consolation in the face of Arsenal‘s superiority.

Looking ahead, Eidevall focused on the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton. “We’re in a good place, but we need to be mindful of a very strong Everton performance against Aston Villa,” he said, emphasising the importance of the team’s ongoing development and preparation.
