Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has expressed optimism about the return of defender Jurrien Timber to action before the end of this season, despite a significant knee injury.

Timber, who moved to Arsenal from Ajax last summer for €40 million, has had a challenging start at the club due to his injury woes.

The 15-time Dutch international made a notable debut for Arsenal, contributing to their victory in the Community Shield via penalties.

However, his initial strides with the Gunners were cut short when he sustained a cruciate ligament injury during his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest.

Arteta, speaking ahead of Arsenal‘s home match against Crystal Palace, addressed Timber’s recovery and potential impact.

“At the moment he is far from participating, that is the reality. But if you ask whether he can have a big impact this season? Yes, that is certainly possible,” said the Spanish manager.

He added, “We are hopeful if everything goes well in his recovery, but it is still too early to say exactly.”

His injury not only affected Arsenal‘s defensive options but also raised concerns about his chances of participating in the upcoming European Championship in Germany this summer.

The young defender’s recent return to the field during a mini-training camp for Arsenal has sparked hopes of a comeback.

Timber now faces the challenge of regaining his fitness and form to contribute to Arsenal‘s campaign and secure his place in the national team for this summer’s competition.
