Mikel Arteta has declared that the club will not be signing a new striker in the winter transfer market.
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that the club will not be pursuing a new striker in the remaining days of the winter transfer market.
This decision comes despite ongoing speculation linking Arsenal with high-profile forwards.
Arteta, speaking before Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace, expressed his satisfaction with the current squad, stating: “No (we are not going to sign), but it is because I am delighted with the players we have here.”
Currently, Arsenal‘s attacking options include Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus.
While neither player is a traditional number ‘nine’, they are integral to Arsenal‘s strategy. Gabriel Jesus, however, has faced challenges with injuries, missing eight games this season due to physical issues.
This has been a recurring problem for Jesus, who was sidelined for 16 games last season due to a knee injury.
The speculation around Arsenal‘s interest in a new striker was fuelled by the performance of their current forwards.
Nketiah, known for his energetic presence, has yet to become a prolific goal scorer at this level. His track record in the league shows he has never exceeded five goals in a season, and 10 goals in total.
This, combined with Jesus’ injury woes, had sparked rumours that Arsenal might be eyeing reinforcements.
Names like Karim Benzema and Borja Mayoral had emerged as potential targets.
Benzema, currently with Al-Ittihad, was absent from the team’s latest training sessions, leading to speculation about his happiness in Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Borja Mayoral has been in fine form for Getafe, scoring 14 goals this season.
Despite these options, Arteta’s recent comments have put to rest any notions of Arsenal adding a new striker to their squad this winter.
