Arsenal are ramping up their scouting activities with a focus on Sporting’s defender Ousmane Diomande, as they plan to watch him play at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Arsenal are heightening their scouting efforts for Sporting‘s Ousmane Diomande, with plans to scout the 20-year-old defender at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This move reflects the Gunners’ serious interest in adding Diomande to their squad.
Diomande, who has made a name for himself at Sporting since his transfer from FC Midtjylland, has garnered attention from various Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.
The London club’s interest has been consistent, with reports last month indicating that they were tracking both Diomande and his teammate Viktor Gyökeres.
Arsenal‘s scouting at AFCON is part of a strategic effort to evaluate Diomande’s performance and suitability for their defence. This suggests that Arsenal are laying the groundwork for a future bid, although the financial details of any potential offer remain unclear.
He is currently valued at around €40m and under contract until 2027.
That being said, Sporting have been clear about their position on Diomande’s transfer, stating that any departure would require meeting his release clause of €80 million.
This stance presents a significant financial consideration for Arsenal, who have already invested heavily in their squad under Mikel Arteta’s tenure, and the other areas of the squad that need addressing with more urgency.
