Arsenal have recalled striker Mika Biereth from his loan spell at Motherwell, as confirmed by Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell.

This decision follows interest from Sheffield Wednesday and potentially other Championship clubs.

Kettlewell expressed his disappointment at losing Biereth, acknowledging the positive impact he had at Motherwell. “Mika has been recalled. It’s been a difficult one for us over the last 24 hours. Arsenal have called him back. It’s a major, major disappointment to us of course,” he said.

Reflecting on Biereth’s time at the club, Kettlewell added, “They feel that he’s been in a terrific position. They’ve loved the working environment here. Again, I go back to the personal relationship with myself and the player and the staff to the player. It’s been terrific, it’s been really, really good.”

The recall was unexpected for Motherwell, with Kettlewell noting, “This was a little bit unexpected, the conversation was that Mika would stay here until the end of the season as recently as last week; that he would 100% be staying at Motherwell unless something really big came on the table for Arsenal and something that they thought was an opportunity that they can’t turn down.”

Biereth’s performance at Motherwell has been notable, with the 20-year-old scoring five goals and making six assists in 15 appearances, contributing a goal or assist every 93 minutes in the Scottish Premiership.

This form has not only impressed Motherwell but also attracted attention from other clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday, as reported by The Star, are interested in bringing Biereth to Hillsborough for the second half of the season. They are not the only club in the Championship eyeing the Arsenal youngster, indicating the high regard in which he is held.

The potential move to the Championship represents an upgrade for Biereth, offering him an opportunity to gain valuable experience. However, it also poses a risk of disrupting a productive season where he has enjoyed consistent playing time.
