Arsenal u16s featuring Omotara JunaidOmotara Junaid has agreed to a new two-year deal with Arsenal, as reported by Allnigeriasoccer.com, with the club successfully retaining the services of the midfielder amidst keen interest from rival clubs.

Chelsea had been actively seeking to add Omotara to their ranks, aiming to enhance their academy. However, following productive discussions with the coaching staff at Arsenal, Omotara chose to continue her football journey with the Gunners.

The new contract marks a significant milestone in Omotara’s career, as it includes her promotion to the Arsenal Women FC Pro Game Academy U21 squad for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons.

Omotara’s father expressed his pride and satisfaction with this new chapter in his daughter’s career. He remarked, “It’s a huge breakthrough and a testament to the hard work Tara has put into her game since the beginning of the season. This will surely encourage her to work even harder.”

Eight months ago, Junaid, a standout player from the Women’s U16s team, caught the attention of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Junaid was born in the United States to Nigerian parents and raised partly in Nigeria before moving to England and is eligible to play for all three.

Although she has played non-binding matches for England’s Young Lionesses, there’s a strong possibility she could opt for Nigeria if given the opportunity. After her new deal with Arsenal was confirmed, her father said she would be interested in representing the Super Falcons.

At Arsenal, Junaid has distinguished herself, becoming the second-highest goalscorer in the FA Girls’ England Talent Pathway League and playing a pivotal role in the U16s’ undefeated season and league title triumph, with her goals highlighting her effectiveness as a box-to-box midfielder.

Arsenal’s youth team coaches have also explored her potential as a right-back, but they see her best fit in the number 8 role, where her versatility, ball skills, tackling ability, and physicality shine.

Additionally, her skills as a winger, marked by dynamism and flair, make her a formidable force on the pitch.
