Arsenal goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese‘s loan to Bristol City has ended prematurely due to an ACL injury, bringing her stint to an abrupt halt.

The 25-year-old American player’s move to Bristol was a significant step in her career, following two successful seasons in Denmark with HB Koge, where she clinched two consecutive domestic titles. This led to her transfer to Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

At Arsenal, Marckese was initially the clear second choice behind Manu Zinsberger.

However, her appearances became increasingly limited following the signing of Canadian international Sabrina D’Angelo. Seeking more game time, Marckese joined Bristol City on loan for the 2023/24 campaign, a move that promised to offer her the much-needed minutes on the pitch.

The ACL injury, sustained during a match against Aston Villa in November after only four appearances for The Robins, has unfortunately cut short her time at Bristol City.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) plays a crucial role in stabilising the knee joint, and injuries to it can be particularly detrimental for athletes, often requiring extensive rehabilitation.

Following her successful surgery, Marckese has now returned to Arsenal to undergo her rehabilitation process.

Recovery from an ACL injury involves a comprehensive approach, including physiotherapy and strength training, and the timeline for return can vary greatly depending on individual circumstances.

“We wish Kaylan all the best for the future and thank her for her efforts with Bristol City,” said a representative from Bristol City, acknowledging Marckese’s contribution and the unfortunate nature of her injury.
