Arsenal’s transfer strategy has reportedly taken a new turn with their interest in Jeremie Frimpong, the Dutch international currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal, already having Jurriën Timber under contract, is now showing specific interest in Frimpong, as reported by the German media outlet BILD.

The club’s initial plan was to strengthen their defence in January, but Frimpong’s contractual situation has shifted their focus to the summer.

This change in their approach is due to a specific clause in Frimpong’s contract with Leverkusen.

Frimpong, who has been impressing at Leverkusen, has a release clause that allows him to leave for €40 million in the summer.

This clause has become a key factor in Arsenal‘s revised plans.

Leverkusen, currently at the top of the Bundesliga four points ahead of Bayern Munich, also prefers to part ways with their full-back in the summer.

Since moving from Celtic to Leverkusen in January 2021 for €11 million, Frimpong has played 117 games, making a significant impact with 18 goals and 30 assists.

His performance has undoubtedly caught the eye of major clubs, including Arsenal.

The 23-year-old, valued at €50 million, is under contract with Leverkusen until 2028.
