Arsenal have set their sights on Ajax‘s young defender Jorrel Hato, with plans to make a move for him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Telegraph has highlighted the 17-year-old as a long-term defensive reinforcement for the Gunners, noting the versatility he could bring to Mikel Arteta‘s squad.

Hato’s current contract with Ajax runs until mid-2025, and although Ajax is keen to extend and upgrade this deal, discussions have been affected by administrative unrest, and an agreement has not been reached yet.

This situation has opened a window of opportunity for Arsenal, who are reportedly not planning to make a formal offer this month but are expected to announce their interest as the summer approaches.

The young defender has been making waves in Dutch football, not only as a regular starter for Ajax but also by earning a spot in the Dutch national team.

Despite his impressive performances, Hato’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has seen a recent decrease. As of January, his ETV stands at €19.3 million, a drop from the previous month.

However, this value could see a significant increase if Ajax manages to secure a new contract with him.

Arsenal‘s interest in Hato is part of a broader strategy to build a strong defensive line for the future. The club maintains a good relationship with Ajax, evidenced last summer when they agreed on a transfer of Jurriën Timber to Arsenal for up to €45 million.

Hato, who has expressed his dream of making a big transfer, might find Arsenal an ideal destination to continue his development.

For Ajax, the coming months will be crucial in determining whether they can retain their young star or if Arsenal will successfully secure his transfer.

Hato’s potential move to the Emirates Stadium would mark another significant acquisition for Arsenal and a step forward in their long-term squad building efforts.
