Arsenal are still in contact with Amadou Onana’s camp, but the Gunners need to sell before they can buy, according to a report.

Belgian football journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen of Nieuwsblad Sport reports that Arsenal are still in contact with Amadou Onana’s camp, as well as his club Everton, but the Gunners will have to sell before they can make a significant move for the midfielder.

Arsenal appear likely to invest in a midfielder this month or in the summer, but the funds just don’t seem to be available right now.

Add to that the fact that Everton boss Sean Dyche recently played down the links to Arsenal.

“He’s been heavily linked before I was here and after,” Dyche said. “It’s just another story.

“He’s an Everton player, so any decision that we make on players, it will be us that decide.”

Fabrizio Romano recently wrote that Onana has always been a player appreciated by Arsenal, but the journalist didn’t have any information about a concrete move for the player at that stage.

Romano wrote that it’s too early to know what will happen with Onana, and Arsenal are still discussing their options internally.

Football Insider Team News and Ticks reported that Arsenal have liked Onana for a long time and tried to sign him before.

But the current links were described as “agent talk”, with no clubs making contact with Everton over a move, and Arsenal briefing the press that they haven’t made contact.

Everton are in some financial difficulties at the moment, and they’re under particular scrutiny following another recent breach of the Premier League’s rules.

Even so, it doesn’t appear that the club are rushing to sell their star players just yet.
