Reuell Walters was among the Arsenal youngsters to take part in first-team training on Friday, as he looks set to step up in Takehiro Tomiyasu’s absence.

Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered an injury to his calf in his last appearance for Arsenal, and reports have since confirmed that the defender is set to be out of action for at least a few weeks.

Fortunately, Ben White is available again after some injury problems of his own, but with their busy schedule, Arsenal may need to call on some of their backups in games when White needs a rest.

Cedric Soares is available, but youth defender Reuell Walters is also getting a look-in at the moment.

Like Tomiyasu, Walters has the advantage of being able to cover at both right-back and centre-back, often playing in a central role for the Arsenal u21s this season.

Walters was in the first-team squad against Luton Town on Tuesday, and he was in senior training on Friday ahead of the upcoming game against Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old wasn’t the only youngster to step up, with Charles Sagoe Jr. and Lino Sousa pictured in training too, and a number of others involved throughout the week.

But unlike some of the others, Walters was involved throughout, pictured alongside Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Aaron Ramsdale, Reiss Nelson, and Leandro Trossard on the winning team from one session.

It seems like the teenager is going to get another chance on the bench on Saturday.

Arsenal then travel to PSV for their dead-rubber group game, which could see him getting a debut if he’s lucky.
