Former Arsenal player Mesut Ozil responded to Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s quip about the famous football club, demonstrating Ozil’s affinity for Arsenal and his sharp sense of humour.

Mesut Ozil, the former Arsenal star, has responded on social media to Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio‘s recent jibe about Arsenal.

The Academy Award-winning actor, known for his lack of football knowledge, asked, “what’s Arsenal?” during an event in London’s Leicester Square.

This comment quickly gained traction on social media platforms.

The comment occurred while DiCaprio was discussing the athletic abilities of elite footballers and NBA stars with Lily Gladstone, his co-star in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Comparing them to Michael Jordan, he quipped, “Better than Michael Jordan? The greatest basketball player ever!”

Despite his question, DiCaprio has previously shown interest in football. He revealed he became a fan after attending the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, prompted by his godson, and has since been spotted at several Champions League matches.

Ozil, seizing the opportunity for a witty reply, posted on Twitter, “Arsenal Football Club is older than 25 years … so why should he know?”

His comment is a reference to a popular theory about DiCaprio’s dating history, which suggests the actor’s relationships often conclude when his partners reach the age of 25.

During his time with Arsenal, Ozil made over 250 appearances in all competitions, a record for him at any club.

He joined the Gunners in 2013 from Real Madrid for £42.5m and had an illustrious career with the club.

Ozil’s achievements at Arsenal include scoring 44 goals, providing 79 assists, and winning four FA Cups.

He has since retired from playing.
