The Evening Standard report that Napoli have agreed terms on a new contract for star striker Victor Osimhen, tying him down until 2026 and ruling out the prospect of a January transfer.

But Osimhen could be set to move on in the summer, and he’ll have a ~£112m release clause in his new deal.

Chelsea are among the clubs interested in Osimhen, and he’s reportedly open to that move, with Napoli working on replacements for the striker. But Arsenal are also in the mix.

Reports on social media broke the news of Arsenal’s continued interest in Osimhen last month, with @MoArsenal86 and football insider Team News and Ticks reporting that Osimhen is Mikel Arteta’s first-choice centre-forward signing.

Charles Watts reported in May 2022 that Arsenal had held talks with Osimhen’s agent, with the agent flying into London for a meeting with Edu Gaspar.

At the time, Napoli weren’t willing to sell, and Arsenal turned to Gabriel Jesus instead.

But Watts told his YouTube channel in November that Arsenal’s interest in Osimhen would not have gone away, and the Gunners do want a striker in the summer. He went on to add that there would be strong competition from elsewhere, however.

Osimhen has seven goals and two assists in his 15 appearances between Serie A and the Champions League so far this season.

He’s helped Napoli through to the last-16 in Europe, where they could be set to face Arsenal, depending on the results of Monday’s draw.
