The Premier League have confirmed that Michael Oliver will referee Arsenal’s match against West Ham United on Thursday, December 28th at 20:15 GMT.

Oliver will be assisted by Stuart Burt and Dan Cook, with Rob Jones acting as the fourth official.

Craig Pawson will be on VAR, with Ian Hussin as the assistant VAR.

Oliver’s refereeing made the headlines recently after he sent off Diogo Dalot for dissent in Manchester United’s match against Liverpool.

Dalot objected to an incorrect throw-in decision too aggressively for Oliver’s liking, throwing his arm and shouting, and the referee brandished a yellow card.

In response to the booking, Dalot shouted and threw his arm again, and Oliver decided to show the player a second yellow as a result.

There were plenty of comparisons made between the Dalot incident and the one in which Gabriel Martinelli was sent off against Wolves.

Again, Oliver was the referee that day, and he showed Martinelli two yellow cards in quick succession for consecutive fouls the winger had made in a single counter-attack.

But the Martinelli incident remains unique, because the Brazilian didn’t know he was set to receive a yellow card when he committed the second offence. At least Dalot had that luxury.

Arsenal will hope none of their players are involved in any controversial incidents on Thursday, with another game away to Fulham just a few days later.
