Jurgen Klopp has criticised the Liverpool fan support after their cup win over West Ham United, calling for more against Arsenal.
Liverpool achieved an impressive result against West Ham United on Wednesday, thrashing the London club 5-1 at Anfield to progress to the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Yet Jurgen Klopp wasn’t happy afterwards, complaining that the Anfield atmosphere wasn’t good enough for such a performance, and it will need to be a lot better when Arsenal visit on Saturday.
“I was not overly happy I have to say,” Klopp admitted. “Not with the atmosphere behind me. I don’t know, I don’t.
“I asked people: ‘What do you want?’ We changed a lot of things and we dominated West Ham like crazy and we missed chances.
“If I was in the stands, I would be on my toes, 1,000%. I don’t know if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn’t smash them?
“We need Anfield on Saturday. We need Anfield on their toes. If you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.”
Arsenal travel to Anfield for Saturday’s game at 17:30 GMT, in a top-of-the-table clash.
The Gunners and Liverpool are unlikely to be the literal top-two teams, as Aston Villa face Sheffield United at home on Friday with the chance to go top with a win.
But if either Arsenal or Liverpool pick up three points on Saturday, they’d return to the top of the table.
And much as Unai Emery’s side are impressing at the moment, it still seems more likely that Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City will be fighting for top spot in May.
So Saturday’s game is a huge one for both Arsenal and Liverpool, and you can see why Klopp would want to rally the fans ahead of the clash.
