Kai Havertz, who moved from Chelsea to Arsenal during the summer, has become a significant figure in the Gunners’ quest for Premier League glory.

And even after two or three bad games, the coach came to me and said: ‘Hey, everything is fine, soon something will click and then it will happen.’

The German international’s recent form has been impressive, with four goals in his last seven games for club and country.

In an exclusive conversation with Sky Sports Germany, Havertz delved into his experiences at Arsenal, discussing the challenges he faced initially and his mental resilience. The young midfielder’s journey is a reflection of his adaptability and determination.

Reflecting on the initial criticism he faced, Havertz commented, “Every footballer probably feels more comfortable on the pitch when everyone is praising him, everyone is screaming his name and everyone thinks he’s great. But I now know that this is not reality. That you’re the hero one weekend and the idiot the next – I think we know that enough by now.”

Havertz candidly admits his early days at Arsenal were challenging. “Of course, my self-confidence suffered a bit from time to time. Nevertheless, I believe that I am now so strong that I can work my way out of such depths. You can’t please everyone anyway. Sometimes they like you, sometimes they don’t like you – and I accept that. As long as the people around me are happy with me, that’s enough for me,” he said, highlighting his growth in mental strength and focus on personal improvement.

The support from Arsenal’s coaching staff played a crucial role in his adaptation. “It was made clear to me from the beginning that everyone would give me the time to fit in well. And even after two or three bad games, the coach came to me and said: ‘Hey, everything is fine, soon something will click and then it will happen.’ And then the moment came,” Havertz recounted, illustrating the supportive and patient environment fostered at the club.

Havertz also spoke about his versatility and team-centric approach. “I’m someone who puts his ego aside and will play for a team and in a position as needed. When I play, I give it my all, no matter where. And I also think that I understand the game quite well, so I can fill many positions,” he ssaid

His rapport with teammate Gabriel Jesus is another aspect that Havertz cherishes. “I love playing with him because I think he sees the game the same way I do. And that’s why we get along very, very well on the pitch – but also off the pitch,” he shared, underlining their on-field synergy.

Looking ahead, Havertz is focused on his performance in the upcoming home European Championships. “I’m just happy to be able to play this European Championship, hopefully – and to be able to play successfully. And I will now do everything I can this season to prepare myself as well as possible and to be in my best possible condition there,” he concluded, revealing his dedication to both club and country.
