Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba received plenty of praise for their performance at Anfield on Saturday, including from their own teammates.

Arsenal centre-back duo Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba were the primary reason the Gunners managed to come away from Anfield with a point on Saturday.

Gabriel scored Arsenal’s goal with a well-placed header, timing his run to perfection to avoid straying offside. The defender was just as effective at the other end, making a few vital interventions to prevent Liverpool counter-attacks.

As for Saliba, the French international won the Man of the Match award for an imperious display at the back, showing composure well beyond his years in possession and muscling players out of the game when he didn’t have the ball.

Ben White was playing alongside the duo at right-back, and he was effusive with his praise after the game.

“They are unbelievable together,” White said (via Evening Standard). “They are so strong and powerful. They make it easier for everyone around them.

“They just don’t do too much wrong, do they? They are so consistent every game. No one is dominating them speed wise or strength wise.

“It’s hard for strikers to come up against and find anything positive to come out of the game.”

Bukayo Saka was similarly impressed by his teammates at the back, making that clear in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

“Special shout out to our centre back pairing Willy [Saliba] and Gabi [Gabriel] today, I thought they were top, and dealt with Liverpool’s threats loads of times.”

Defenders don’t always get the credit they deserve for a result, so it’s nice to see their teammates singling them out for public praise.
