Emile Smith Rowe returned to full training on Monday, a promising sign for the midfielder and the club ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

The England international, sidelined since October due to an injury sustained in a 5-0 victory over Sheffield United, is poised to make a comeback, potentially featuring in Arsenal’s final Champions League group match against PSV Eindhoven.

Mikel Arteta, speaking at a press conference in Eindhoven on Monday evening, expressed his admiration for Smith Rowe’s approach to rehabilitation and his readiness for a strong return. Arteta highlighted the universal challenges faced by footballers, including injuries and varying performances, and commended Smith Rowe’s handling of these setbacks.

Arteta said, “What he has been through is part of the experience that 95 per cent of footballers have to go through. That’s difficulties, injuries, setbacks and different kind of performances too. He’s back now, and he can use that in a very powerful way, he will be a much better player.”

The Arsenal manager also noted the exceptional nature of Smith Rowe’s rehabilitation process, indicating a positive trajectory for the player’s return to form. “I think he’s on the right path, the way he’s done his rehab, I haven’t seen it like he’s done it this time,” Arteta said.

The team’s reaction to Smith Rowe’s return has been notably positive, reflecting his importance to the squad. Arteta’s comments suggest a belief in Smith Rowe’s ability to positively impact the team’s performance upon his return.

“I think you have seen how his team-mates reacted to him being back with the team, which is a really positive thing as well. The more we can give him chances to play, the better we will be. So let’s hope that’s going to be the case,” he added.
