Former Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has praised Emile Smith Rowe for his impact with the club, years after the Arsenal man’s loan spell.
Emile Smith Rowe has been an established player for the Arsenal first team for a number of years now, making over 100 appearances for the club.
But the 23-year-old got an early boost in his senior career with a loan spell away at Huddersfield Town during the 2019/20 season, when Danny Cowley was managing the club.
Reflecting on that spell, Cowley had plenty of praise for the Arsenal midfielder.
“I remember we had Emile Smith Rowe and his first day in training we had a relegation battle at Huddersfield and he trained and he lit the place up,” Cowley told the Hawksbee and Jacobs Daily podcast (via JustArsenal).
“He was such a quiet and introverted boy, but what an incredible talent, his ability to find space, one touch, he was an incredible talent.
“These players, even though they lack experience, they actually teach you the game, you learn so much from watching them.”
Smith Rowe has struggled to have a consistent impact with Arsenal over the last couple of years.
Injuries certainly play a large part in that, with the player seeming to pick up another setback whenever he’s on a good run of form.
But Mikel Arteta has also seemed to show hesitance to put the midfielder back in too quickly after each injury clears up.
As Cowley points out, there’s no doubting Smith Rowe’s talent. But he clearly needs to stay fit and perform regularly if he’s going to stay at Arsenal for the long term.
