The recent injury to Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is pushing them to step up their interest in Aaron Ramsdale, according to a report.

TalkSPORT report that Chelsea are considering stepping up their interest in Aaron Ramsdale due to Robert Sanchez’s impending spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The same outlet claim Newcastle United are also monitoring Ramsdale, but they don’t have the funds for a permanent transfer at present.

From an Arsenal point of view, talkSPORT claim the Gunners aren’t keen to accept any advances for Ramsdale until they can find a replacement.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Chelsea interest in Ramsdale from talkSPORT, with the same outlet claiming last month that the goalkeeper was emerging as a top target for Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Yet at the time, Fabrizio Romano played down the report, particularly the links to Chelsea.

Romano claimed Ramsdale is not part of Chelsea’s shortlist for a new goalkeeper, and no negotiations were taking place.

Perhaps that might have changed in the wake of the injury to Sanchez, but at the time there were no talks ongoing for a January move.

Even so, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if one or two of the top Premier League clubs were looking at Ramsdale’s situation.

The goalkeeper has lost his starting spot, and yet he’s still probably a better player than most of Arsenal’s rivals have.
