Arsenal are intensifying their scouting efforts in Brazil, with Sao Paulo midfielder Pablo Maia identified as a key target for the January transfer window.

This move is seen as part of Arsenal‘s broader strategy to refresh and strengthen their midfield, following their interest in South American talents in recent years. Arsenal have successfully signed players like Gabriel Martinelli in 2019 and Marquinhos in 2022.

The latest prospect catching their attention is 21-year-old Pablo Maia, who is currently seen as one of the brightest talents in Brazilian football. With more than 100 appearances for Sao Paulo, Maia has made a significant impact and is now on the radar of several European clubs.

Arsenal‘s interest in Maia was first reported in November, following the extensive work of their new scout, Paulo Xavier.

Xavier, who previously worked with Arsenal‘s sporting director Edu during their time with the Brazil national team in 2016, has been closely monitoring Maia’s progress. Their pursuit of Maia is viewed as a proactive move, especially with potential deals for other targets like Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Joao Palhinha of Fulham facing complications.

Arsenal are widely expected to try and sell Thomas Partey again when the transfer window opens and are actively looking for a replacement.
