With various injury problems in the Arsenal squad at the moment, Mikel Arteta has a few spare spots for Tuesday’s clash against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.

As a reminder, the Champions League has a larger bench than the Premier League, with 12 spots for substitutes rather than nine.

One of these extra three spots always goes to a goalkeeper, usually Karl Hein in Arsenal’s case. But there are two more additional spots compared to the Premier League.

Kaya Kaynak reports that Ethan Nwaneri, Lino Sousa, and Reuell Walters have all travelled with the Arsenal squad to Eindhoven.

Right-back Walters was already in the squad for the last couple of games against Luton Town and Aston Villa, as he appears to step up in Takehiro Tomiyasu’s absence.

But the extra two spots have allowed midfielder Nwaneri and left-back Sousa to make the leap to the senior squad as well.

This isn’t new territory for Nwaneri, who was also in Arsenal’s first-team squad against RC Lens.

But this would be the first time Walters or Sousa have ever made a Champions League squad, despite both previously featuring in Arteta’s squads in domestic competition.

Given Arsenal’s injuries and the fact they have little to play for, it would be great to see Nwaneri, Sousa, and Walters all getting a chance on the pitch for the Gunners at some stage on Tuesday night.
