Arsenal are reportedly considering a significant change in their squad during the January transfer window, with a potential move to sell Thomas Partey in order to sign Fulham‘s Joao Palhinha.

The idea of selling Partey, while not entirely convincing to everyone within the club, has emerged due to the need to reinforce the midfield area.

Partey’s persistent injury issues have become a concern for Arsenal, impacting their tactical planning and raising doubts about his long-term reliability in the squad.

As Thomas Partey approaches the final 18 months of his contract this January, Arsenal could leverage the situation. There’s interest in the Ghanaian midfielder from Saudi clubs and Juventus, presenting a possible pathway for his exit from the Emirates Stadium.

In his place, Fulham‘s 28-year-old midfielder Joao Palhinha is emerging as a favoured replacement. Palhinha, who nearly joined Bayern Munich last summer, has now caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, including heavyweights Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

While Mikel Arteta is waiting for Partey’s return to the first team, the uncertainty surrounding his future is lending more weight to the option of bringing in Palhinha.

However, a key factor in this potential transfer is whether Arsenal have the financial capacity to complete such a high-profile signing, especially given the competition from other top-tier clubs.
