Albert Sambi Lokonga, currently on loan with Luton Town from Arsenal, has openly declared his intention to fight for a place in Arsenal’s team next season.

Despite facing hurdles, including injuries, he remains committed to his goal.

Lokonga, who has been with Luton Town since the beginning of the season, faced challenges in securing a permanent spot under Mikel Arteta, leading to his loan spells.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who spent the latter half of the previous season at Crystal Palace, joined Luton Town in the recent transfer window. His time at Luton has been marred by a hamstring injury he sustained at the end of September, limiting him to just 132 minutes this season.

Ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming league match against Luton Town, Lokonga spoke to La Dernière Heure about various aspects of his career and recovery.

He shared that he is targeting a return to the pitch later this month, with hopes to be back before Boxing Day. “No, they are fine [don’t have pain in hamstring]. My strength has returned. I still don’t know how I injured my hamstring. I’m aiming for Manchester City or Bournemouth. It’s getting closer,” Lokonga said.

Discussing the setback he faced in September, Lokonga conveyed that it was not easy for him to handle. However, he remains focused on his recovery and his future at Arsenal. His contract with the club extends until 2026, and decisions regarding his position at Arsenal are expected in the coming months.

When asked about his aspirations to play for Belgium in the Euros next summer and then return to Arsenal, Lokonga responded, “That’s the ideal scenario [laughs] but let me focus on Luton Town. The next six months will decide my future at Arsenal and with the national team.”

On being questioned about his dream to succeed at Arsenal, Lokonga expressed uncertainty about his future but affirmed his strong connection with the club.

“I don’t know what my future at the club holds,” he said. “I feel really good at Arsenal.

“We’ll see what happens but as long as I’m under contract there, I will always fight to get back into the team. I still have contact with the Arsenal staff.”
