Jurgen Klopp has recognised the formidable strength of Arsenal as they prepare for a pivotal match at Anfield, which will decide the Premier League leaders over Christmas.
Jurgen Klopp has recognised Arsenal as a formidable contender for the Premier League title ahead of their crucial clash at Anfield. The upcoming match is set to determine who tops the table over Christmas.
Klopp, in his comments, acknowledged the strength and improvements Arsenal have made under Mikel Arteta. “I thought they looked like that [title contenders] last year to be honest and then some results kicked in,” Klopp said.
“I can remember our game here, they were outstanding until we found a way into the game and then maybe in the end we should have won it.”
Reflecting on a specific moment from their last meeting, Klopp added, “I can remember Ibou Konate at 2-2 with the chest half-a-yard in front of the goal and I’m still wondering how he couldn’t score there.”
The Liverpool manager praised Arsenal‘s recruitment strategy, highlighting their key signings. “That was the team we faced, a super-strong team, that’s what they are, and then you bring in Declan Rice and Kai Havertz and it doesn’t make you worse. David Raya in goal doesn’t make you worse,” Klopp noted.
He further commended Arteta’s ability to build a well-rounded team: “Mikel could build exactly the team he wants, they are difficult to play, they are a good mix between physicality – big, strong, fast players – good technique, very good organisation, really well coached, well drilled and you see every year they make another step.”
Despite acknowledging Arsenal‘s strengths, Klopp remained focused on the challenge ahead: “They really have my respect but we want the points anyway.”
He concluded his remarks by highlighting the significance of the forthcoming match, “We play a super-strong team, a team who played exceptional last season and coming back is even better than last season.”
