As the transfer window approaches, Jorginho is at a crossroads with his contract nearing its end and interest from various clubs, including Fenerbahce, growing.
Jorginho is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club at the end of the season, with two key factors fuelling these rumours. The first is his contract with the Gunners, set to expire in June. Additionally, his limited role in the team has further fuelled speculation about his future at Arsenal.
Despite making 15 appearances this season, Jorginho is a squad player, although one that Mikel Arteta trusts immensely. His struggle to secure a regular spot in Mikel Arteta’s midfield has not gone unnoticed by the media which has allowed them to speculate about his long-term role in the team.
Fenerbahce have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Jorginho from Arsenal. Reports from Aksam suggest that they are preparing to make a new offer for him. The Turkish side, however, are keen to sign him as a free agent, a move that would be considered a significant acquisition, given Jorginho‘s reputation as a ‘technically world-class’ player.
It is important to note that Jorginho‘s contract with Arsenal includes an option for a one-year extension. However, it remains unclear whether the decision to activate this extension lies with the player or the club. This uncertainty adds to the speculation surrounding his potential departure.
Apart from Fenerbahce, clubs from Spain and Italy have also shown interest in Jorginho. Aksam’s report indicates that his agent is eager to ‘push all the conditions’ for a move, suggesting that acquiring Jorginho would not come cheap for Fenerbahce or any other interested party.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal‘s manager, has publicly expressed his satisfaction with Jorginho. “I’m really happy with Jorgi… I think he contributes to make the team better and let’s see,” said Arteta.
However, Arteta has clarified that any decision regarding Jorginho‘s contract extension is in the hands of Edu or the Arsenal board, rather than the coaching staff.
