Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that both Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson sustained injuries during their recent Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

The game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, had little significance for Arsenal as they had already secured the top spot in their Champions League group. However, the injuries to Elneny and Nelson are a cause for concern for the squad.

Arteta made a number of changes to the Arsenal lineup for this match, with Nelson, Elneny, and Cedric Soares all starting. Arsenal took the lead with a goal from Eddie Nketiah, following a notable run by Nelson.

However, an error at the back allowed PSV Eindhoven to equalise in the second half.

The injury to Elneny was particularly disheartening as he hobbled off the pitch with what seemed to be a hamstring issue. Asked about it after the game, Arteta said “Yeah we don’t know the extent of it but he’s done something.”

Arteta’s revelation that Nelson also ‘felt something’ adds to the team’s injury concerns, putting additional pressure on Arsenal’s squad as they navigate through the busy festive fixture schedule.
